Malawi Unwritten · 7 day journey
Tea country, a proper two-night safari and a Lake Malawi finale in one carefully paced southern journey.
The journey
This is the shortest Malawi Unwritten journey, but it is not a hurried checklist. The route begins gently in the southern highlands, gives Majete enough time to feel like a genuine safari stay, and finishes beside the lake.
The precise lakeshore base and final departure rhythm are planned around flight times, road conditions and the season.

Two nights in Majete preserve a full morning and afternoon wildlife rhythm rather than a token drive.
Tea country, dry woodland and open water give the short route three distinct environments.
The departure day retains a buffer or additional night when flight timing would otherwise make the return rushed.
| Stage | Destination | Stay | Approx. movement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Blantyre | A calm arrival | Airport transfer: approximately 20-40 minutes |
| Day 2 | Thyolo tea country | Into the highlands | Blantyre to Thyolo: approximately 50 minutes-1 hour 15 minutes |
| Day 3 | Majete | The road to the reserve | Thyolo to Majete: approximately 3 hours, including a comfort stop |
| Day 4 | Majete | A full safari day | Local reserve drives |
| Day 5 | Southern Lake Malawi | From bush to water | Majete to the selected lakeshore: approximately 5-6.5 hours |
| Day 6 | Southern Lake Malawi | A day on the lake | Local road and boat transfers |
| Day 7 | Blantyre | A considered return | Southern lake to Blantyre: approximately 4-5 hours |

Days 1–2: Blantyre and the green tea landscapes of Thyolo.

Days 3–4: Two nights in Majete with time for a complete wildlife rhythm.

Days 5–7: A longer road north-east, one full water day and a considered return.

South Malawi’s tea landscapes introduce the journey with a softer human scale.

An early wildlife activity followed by a protected midday pause and a second perspective later in the day.

The largest transfer resolves into open water, sunset and an intentionally simple first evening.
